About Kopesha

A Tanzanian website and app that helps a borrower find a licensed lender, and helps a lender run its loan book.

What Kopesha does

Kopesha has four parts. The first is a lender directory: every microfinance institution on the Bank of Tanzania's Tier 2 register, with its region, district, licence number and how to reach it. The second is a set of borrower guides — articles on what a loan really costs, the questions to ask before you sign, collateral, your rights, and how the frauds work. The third is a set of free loan calculators: the true cost of a loan, what you can afford, and a side-by-side comparison of offers, all worked out on your own phone. The fourth is a loan-management system used by the lenders themselves: loans, repayments, installment schedules, SMS receipts and reports.

Who runs Kopesha

Kopesha is built and run by Softsamic Company in Tanzania. Softsamic Company is responsible for this website, the Kopesha apps on Google Play and the App Store, the lender directory and the borrower guides, and it is the data controller under the privacy policy.

What Kopesha does not do

Kopesha lends no money, decides no loan, and vouches for no lender's terms. A loan agreement is between you and the institution. Using Kopesha is free for a borrower: searching is free, asking a lender to call you is free, and no loan fee is ever paid through Kopesha. A licensed lender will never ask you to pay a fee before you receive the loan.

Where the directory comes from

The directory comes from the Bank of Tanzania's Register of Tier 2 Microfinance Service Providers, the edition dated 14 August 2026, which was loaded into Kopesha on 20 September 2026. Each page shows what the register shows: the name, licence number, region, district and contact details. On 28 September 2026 the directory held 3,253 listings: 3,250 from the register (25 of them claimed by the lender itself) and 3 lenders that signed up on their own and are not on the register. Those three carry a “Not on the register” label. A lender can claim its page only with a phone number or email address that the register itself lists. When the Bank publishes a newer edition, we will load it and record the change on the updates page.

How the guides are written

There are 20 guides for anyone borrowing in Tanzania, in English on the website. Every rule a guide mentions comes from the official document itself, named and linked at the end of the guide, and every worked example is recalculated before it is published. They are general information, not advice about any particular lender or your own finances, and no lender pays for them. The editorial policy explains how they are written and checked, including the use of AI writing tools.

A short history

  • 18 August 2026: the Kopesha iPhone app was released on the App Store.
  • 19 September 2026: the first borrower guides were published.
  • 20 September 2026: the lender directory was loaded from the Bank of Tanzania register (edition of 14 August 2026).
  • 29 September 2026: the loan calculators were added, and the guides were corrected, expanded and given their own dates.

Every change is listed on the updates page, and the editorial policy is here.

How the service is paid for

Lenders that use the loan-management system pay a monthly subscription. The guides and the calculators may show Google advertising, which is what keeps them free for a borrower. Google chooses the advertisements; no lender pays Kopesha to appear in the directory or in a guide. No advertiser is given your name, your number or anything from a loan request; the privacy policy sets this out in full.
